Angela Hartnett is a chef and restaurateur known for her sophisticated yet simple Italian cooking. Her passion for food was instilled in her by her Italian mother and grandmother. After starting out in Gordon Ramsay’s kitchens at Aubergine and Pétrus, Angela became head chef at Pétrus, helping the restaurant achieve a Michelin star. In 2008, she co-opened the now Michelin-starred Murano in London’s Mayfair with Gordon Ramsay before taking full ownership two years later. Several Café Muranos have followed, as have Hartnett Holder & Co at Lime Wood in Hampshire and Cicoria at the Royal Opera House.

She co-hosts the podcast, Dish from Waitrose, with Nick Grimshaw. She has an MBE and an OBE for services to the hospitality industry and to the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Locally where possible. I love Spa Terminus in Bermondsey. A wonderful place that has everything you need. Vegetables, wine, meats and cheeses.

I once found a vintage Pan Am bag hidden away in a shop. My aunt worked for them in the 70s, so it felt like a particularly good gift for her.

The photo albums my sister makes. She is a photographer so gets everything properly printed, which is always very special.

Repeating myself now: dog food.
I prefer green tea. If and when I go to Fortnum & Mason, I normally try to get some there.

What’s your biggest splurge?
My house. And I love trying to fill it with art. I recently bought a piece of art from a summer exhibition: it’s currently hanging in one of the restaurants, but I can’t wait to get it home.
Travel. I cycle everywhere.
It has to be a set of Richard Ginori plates; I’m always on the hunt.
